Traditionally, it is believed that all those mentioned must be taken care of and looked after at homes. However, the modern way of life shows that the younger generation is now more concerned and busy with their own daily routine, private life, education, job and entertainment they have the right for. This leaves too little time and resources to focus on the issues of their elder relatives and care of them by their own. However, home care not always can be provided as it is necessary because of the lack of facilities or equipment needed. For that very reason, the dilemma of the nursing houses and home care is of great importance and gains a huge attention of all those people who have the problem of the kind. This essay will aim to discuss the burning issues related to the dilemma of the nursing homes and home care. Also, it will highlight the arguments of both the nursing homes and home care for elder relatives. The current existing problems of the nursing homes in the United States Being a volunteer in one of the campuses in Virginia, I was lucky to meet Jim. Sitting in his wheelchair, he seemed to me one of the most cheerful and interesting 60 years old persons Ive ever met in my life. That is why I believe this acquaintance had all the right to be identified as a lucky chance. Jim was a local resident, and an experienced pilot in the past. I noticed a small sticker on his wheelchair titled something like â€Å"Treat your kids in a nice manner. They are the ones who choose a nursing home for you†. I was surprised and asked him about that stuffed. I was told that he had been nice to his children, which is why he was a resident of the best nursing home he could dream of. The thing is that his â€Å"kids† had no choice but put him in the nursing house to be looked after. But before they did it, there appeared to be an issue after a long research – most nursing houses are not fully appropriate and equipped with all the necessary thing to place the elder people and provide them with the healthcare they need (Sakauye KM, 1992). Not all of them are staffed appropriately and abuse their patients and a disservice to them. Such negative aspect of a poor quality the nursing home industry has, boosts to the question: is it rational to put the relatives in the nursing houses and to find a way out if there is a need to do it. Conversation with Jim pulled me to the answer: one should make a proper research before choosing a new â€Å"shelter† for the one you love when you have no opportunity to take care of them at home. Today, almost all the existing nursing homes are understaffed, which is currently one of the biggest problem. Thus, the residents are not provided with the service they need and their needs are not taken care of. In 2001 Reuters Health made a survey among the nurses in the United States. It showed that 5,000 of the nurses out of more than 7,000 surveyed admitted the decline in quality of the nursing care in the nursing homes. The statistic revealed some shocking facts. 34 residents of the nursing home have only one licensed nurse and 12 residents are assisted by only one nursing assistant per day. HCFA (Health Care Financing Administration), which is an organization aimed to regulate the quality of assistance and care in the nursing homes shared the information that â€Å"average staffing time of nurses was 3,5 hours a day† (Harrington in Nursing Home Residents†, 12). The other issue that influences the quality of assistance in the nursing homes has a lot to do with hiring temporary nurses. This reveals another problem hidden in the way the nurses are trained. The thing is that the nursing homes inform all the residents that the assisting staff is trained properly indeed when in reality it isnt so. So, the nursing homes are satisfied when there are no complaints about it. However, the issue of improperly staffed of such organizations must be revealed by a careful previous research before putting relatives in the nursing homes (Hertzberg A, 2003). However, the major problems of the nursing care industry are not limited by all those mentioned above. The United States Department of Health and Human Services identified nursing home physical abuse as an even more frightening argument for monitoring the right home before making a choice. Up to seven categories of such abuse were revealed, including physical and emotional neglect, which is a real problem because in reality all the nursing homes promise a good service as if the residents are taken care of at homes, where they are loved. Thus, the nursing homes are required to have the necessary drugs available just like the appropriate staff to take care of the nursing home residents. As a matter of fact, before planning to put old people into the nursing homes one must do a research to take the right decision for the beloved ones. This fact gives all the grounds to reveal pros and cons related to this question. Following are the facts considered as pros for the nursing homes care. Again, with the increase of the elderly population, most of us can face with the challenge to provide the members of our family with the nursing assistance in communities or stay beside them at our home. The decision itself may appear to be stressful. It is said that the nursing homes have the highest levels of service and all the appropriate equipment and resources, including a trained staff, to look after the residents. Some of them do really provide custodial care as it is required, which includes help related to getting out of bed, dressing up, feeding and bathing. This mens that the nursing staff is available for the patients around the clock and are always ready to help in case of need and giving drug therapy as required. Adequate healthcare, drug therapy and rehabilitation is promised and followed, while home care is not always possible in an appropriate way. Though, all the existing cons of the nursing homes must be paying even much more attention to make sure that old people are taken care of at the promised level. One should note again that nursing assistance offered in the community must meet all the daily needs of the residents and help them in various activities. All that mentioned relates to the medical assistance for the patients who suffer from diseases, and meeting the needs with eating, bathing, toileting, dressing, walking around, etc. These types of so called services can be provided by a very skilled and experienced personnel, which turns out be not enough as promised by the hospital care management. Or, the staff working there is not appropriately trained to cope with the problems they face with on practice. Again, as mentioned sometimes the residents may be abused by the nurse assistance in terms of moral principles, or even physically. From the one hand, the government is obliged to organize more funds that would observe the existing problem and develop more programs for the patients who receive healthcare or any other assistance in the nursing homes. Currently, many of the communities may not have facilities available for the separate situations occurred because of illness that may be possibly carried by the patient and the urgent attention might not be paid in due course just for the reasons of understaffed homes. Moreover, the fact that there are too many old people left alone who has no sponsorship provided by their relatives is also must be taken into account. On the contrast, home care appears to be the alternative for the nursing homes, which also has both its advantages and downsides. On the whole, home care permits patients stay home and get an assistance in recovering from illnesses, after serious medical surgery activities or to those who are disabled to living a normal life in terms of the aging or disease as well. Most of the patients that are taken care at home also receive all the types of treatments and services from their homes offered by healthcare facilities. These services are covering the main needs in cooking and delivering food, various works about the house like laundry and help involving washing the hair, bathing, dressing or getting out of the bed. All these services may be donated or provided for free by the government programs that cover the costs for the home care. For that very reason, most of aging people give preference to aging at their homes and staying with people they know and love. The surveys revealed that it is much easier and adoptable for aging people to be looked after at homes, which makes them much happier to be in the circle of the family members. Even though, the positive arguments in favor of home care are met by the downsides. Globally, the rapid rise of the aged population is met by the young generation rather than negatively. Since the young people tent to rise their own families and living happy life, taking care of their oldest relatives seems too inconvenient. For that very reason most of the aging people feel lonely and have all the symptoms of depression and mental disorders (Gaugler JE, 2004). Currently, most families do not tend to spend too much time together in a warm circle of relatives and the aging members will need help from the retirement homes and nursing homes. Conclusion With the aging population issue being currently one of the most significant for the children who are looking for an appropriate nursing home for their parents or relatives, it is becoming a vital question for them. Viewing both negative and positive sides of care provided in the nursing homes and at homes by the family, one may conclude theres no univocal answer. However, the facts gathered with the help of surveys signify that home care is far better than the one provided in the understaffed nursing homes. Under the executive powers, the President nominates, and the Senate confirms, the heads of all executive departments and agencies, together with hundreds of other high-ranking federal officials. For example, one of the first executive orders of President G.W. Bush was the nomination of John Ashcroft as the Attorney General in December 2000.1 Other types of executive orders issued by the US President include implementation of important policy matters, especially in times of national emergencies. For example, Franklin Roosevelt ordered the internment of japanese-Americans during WW2 through an executive order; Presidents Johnson and Nixon used executive orders to lauch the affirmative action programs, and President Bush established the Office of Homeland Security in the wake of the 9/11 attacks. Such a role has become obligatory for the President since the Great Depression of the 1930s, when the government started to play a greater role in the regulation of the economy. How do you feel when you face this type of situation? Do you feel bad about it afterward? Or do you feel empowered and like you made a positive difference in the world? I grew up thinking that if I corrected someone or disaffirmed them, I was being mean and overly critical. I still did it, but I felt self-critical more than anything else and made myself wrong for hurting others. I’ve been spending the better part of the last year becoming more comfortable with my opinions and with expressing them, even if I know someone might feel hurt. As the owner of a company who cares greatly about the quality of the work we put out, I have many opportunities to be honest with people about their writing. â€Å"Behind the scenes† at the Essay Expert, I work with a team of subcontractors and review their work before it goes out to a client. I laugh when they make this request – I have no problem telling it like I see it! But when it comes to critiquing in a managerial role, I’ve historically had a more difficult time. The greatest part about these two recent experiences to me is that I felt strong and good about myself even though I had criticized people I am managing. I’ve been learning a lot about stepping into a managerial role in a powerful way. Sometimes disaffirmation can hurt both the recipient and me- but what hurts more is compromising on what I know is right, or on the quality of the work my business produces. This is why the definition of musical nationalism must be refined, so that only composers whose music truly represents all aspects of their nation may be called nationalist. This means that the music must first and foremost appeal to the people and must reflect the nations cultural identity, rather than superimpose a culture upon it. The composer must also keep in mind the nations past and reveal hopes for the future. This means that a true nationalists music, in essence, becomes the nation by not simply encompassing the views of one member of society, o r even one group in society, but of the nation as a whole. Claude Debussy is known today as one of the great French composers who, in the words of Robert Orledge, was ever concerned with the necessity for French music to be true to itself. This made it nearly impossible to express or create without crossing the very fine line set by the State. Artists of the time faced constant fear of exile and unemployment. The composers who did comply with the rules, however, became terrifically wealthy and were able to thrive under Soviet rule, earning up to 10,000 rubles per work commissioned by the Union of Soviet Compo sers. Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich was one such composer. During the social realist period, Shostakovich came back from a temporary downfall stronger than ever with the aim to write music which was consistent with the changes brought on by the Revolution and which was, above anything else, to be created for his people. Shostakovich composed symphonies which would restore his glory and forever mark him as one of the great symphonic composers. Shostakovich had managed to please his audience by progressing in innovativeness, continuing Beethovens and Tchaikovskys strong symphonic traditions, and composing in a way that can truly be considered nationalistic. I find it incredible that an artist should want to shut himself away from the people, who, in the end, form his audience. Shostakovichs music was in touch with the national character of the time: it contained quotations of popular folk songs, was historically significant, and reflected the social realist style of the time. In an article about Soviet music, Nicolas Slonimsky stated that, the musical biography of Shostakovich is a perfect mirror of the changing policies in Soviet music. Shostakovich is the product of Soviet life. An important example of this can be seen in Shostako vichs 7th symphony which was performed on March 1st, 1942 in the temporary capital of Kuibishev. It represented the survival and victory of the nation, inspired by the battle of Leningrad. The main theme is of a Soviet war hero which drowns out a second hesitant, puppet-like theme representing the Germans. Shostakovich used this piece to build the morale of the nation, and helped fight the war from a cultural standpoint. It is true, however, that Shostakovich did succumb to artistic compromise during the social realist movement in order to provide for his family and continue to work as a composer. At the time, Shostakovich wrote music which was loyal to the state, but he did not necessarily agree with the government`s policies. Of course, speaking out loud about his disagreement with the authorities was impossible. Contrary to popular belief, this couldn`t be more irrelevant to whether or not he composed in a nationalistic style. A nation, after all, is defined by the unity of its people, and has absolutely nothing to do with the policies of its government. A composer may whole-heartedly agree with the politics of a country, but still fail to represent its people, its history, its culture and the nation as a whole in their music. Of much importance, on the other hand, is the fact that Shostakovich kept the history of Russian music alive by incorporating compositional techniques used by his predecessors; however, he did not do so in a strictly imitative manner. He made use of the hopelessly sombre mood and the spirit of universal humanity of Tchaikovsky, the folk elements of Prokofiev and, finally the inventiveness of Stravinskys music. In utilizing these elements, Shostakovich was able to continue his countrys strong symphonic reputation and paved the way for new composers by applying innovative orchestration, contrasting orchestral timbres, increasing chromaticism, and vigorously precise rhythms. The innovativeness Shostakovich possessed is an essential quality to have as a nationalist composer, because without innovativeness, one cannot expect to continue the cultural and artistic legacy of a country. In the words of Ernest Newman musicians are generally driven to nationalism as a revolt against foreign influence., much like the Russians did during the 19th century when Italian and German influences were taking over. Rather than escaping foreign influence, Debussy turned to it and incorporated it into his music. Debussys music is no more French than French fries are. Just because one is called French and claims to love their country, does not mean they are intrinsically and whole-heartedly French. As Ernest Newman said: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦however typically Russian a Russian may be, he is not a Russian if he looks, as many Russians do, beyond the borders of his own country, and finds certain aspects of foreign art more interesting than the indigenous art of the home territory. There is no doubt that Debussy was a brilliant composer, but it is quite obvious that he did look far, far beyond the influence of his own nation. How is it then, that we can even begin to consider him as a music ien franà §ais, especially when comparing him to true nationalists like Shostakovich? Rollo H. Meyers argues that à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦Debussy, from the very beginning of his creative career, always knew exactly what kind of music he wanted to write, and no influence whatever could have made him change his course. If he took anything from others, he only took what, in a sense, already belonged to himà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦. This is not unlike modernizing verses of Romeo and Juliet or Hamlet and claiming them to be your own invention because Shakespeares timeless writing already belonged to you. It is people like Meyers who contribute to the constant false identification of nationalism in many composers music. 21Slonimsky, Dmitri Dmitrievitch Shostakovitch, 415. Shostakovich, unlike Debussy, was one of the few composers to truly combine being a good musician with being a good nationalist. He was a true professional when creating his music and always found new ways of appealing to his audience. On top of all of this, he managed to deliver ground-breaking techniques and advance the future of music. His music was revolutionary yet was not overly experimental as to cause a disconnection from his audience. This is especially remarkable considering the limitations set by the Soviet authorities. Even though Debussy is evidently a Frenchman, if one compares him to Shostakovich, it is hard to understand how one could ever consider Debussys music as being French. This so called French quality of his music is really just his Debussyist style of composing, which is purely unique to him, and is not a reflection of his country or his people. This comparison allows us to rethink the definition of nationalism in music and what it means to truly represent a nation. To be nationalist does not mean that one must be born or even grow up in a country. It means that one must act with the nations best interests at heart, and not look beyond that nation for influence. To be a nationalist is to, in essence, encapsulate the past, present, and future of the nation all at once, and to create music which is of the people, by the people, for the people. One must also not be too experimental on an audience, since that immediately disengages them and does nothing to unite a nation. The musical and cultural influences brought upon by truly talented and nationalist composers like Shostakovich were, and still are, extremely significant. Whether or not one agrees, or even whether or not Shostakovich himself agreed with the politics of the Soviet Union is irrelevant. Shostakovich wrote for his people above anything else. He reflected the cultural and historical significance of his country in his music and, despite the oppressive forces of the Soviet government, co ntinued to compose innovatively and in a way which advanced the future of music. It would be difficult to disagree that a figure like Shostakovich was exactly what the struggling country needed at the time: a truly nationalist composer who would write first and foremost for his country and for his people.

Children and young adults who are facing poverty, starvation, unemployment, and ethnic or political persecution, can be lured by the idea of becoming a soldier to escape the pain they feel. During the twentieth century the proportion of civilian casualties in armed conflicts has continually increased and is now estimated to be more tha n ninety percent. Half of the casualties are children, and more than 2 million died as a result of armed conflicts over the last decade.In addition to that, at least 6 million children have been seriously injured and between 8,000 and 10,000 children are killed by landmines every year (UNICEF, 2005). Seven of the ten countries with the highest rates of deaths of children under the age of five are due to the affects of armed conflicts in the countries. I realized that all other children around me had died in the beating. I could see them lying still and not breathing† (Schauer and Elbert 7-8). The next boy was recruited at 13 and served three years as a child soldier, he explains how they would kill other soldiers as punishment, â€Å"When people did something really wrong, they got killed as a punishment .. .1 have seen 5 people being killed for severe disobedience during my time with the group.They were crucified in the forest. Research by Piaget (1969), Vygotsky (1962), and Bruner (1960) justifies integrated approach to teaching and learning. This research establishes that learning is an eminently integrated course which cannot be freely detached into domains such as numeracy, science, and literacy. The centre does not only practice Integrated Approach through dispersing the theme across different subject domains but also by ensuring that there is a continuity in learning at home. The author points out that dyslexia is a prevalent disability among the student population, which has warranted studies on the subject. She points out that there is limited research on healthcare practitioners that are suffering from dyslexia, despite the high rate of prevalence of these. The literature review conducted by the author is quite comprehensive. She applies a unique blend of old and recent literature on the topic, that is, by reviewing Shuler (1990) and Shallenberger (1993), and then going ahead to review a wide variety of more recently completed works such as that by Goode (2007) and Hartley et al. (2008). The literature review is satisfactory towards the philosophical underpinnings of the study (Ryan, Coughlan & Cronin, 2007), that is, it adequately presents some of the issues faced by nursing students with dyslexia.
